Use CNAPS Studio in Claude or ChatGPT

Use CNAPS Studio in Claude or ChatGPT

What this is

Connect CNAPS Studio to Claude or ChatGPT once, then describe the job in plain words and get the finished file back in the same chat. You don't have to build anything on the canvas or know which model to use.

Ask for something like "upscale these product photos 4x and put them on a white background". Claude or ChatGPT picks the AI models, builds the workflow (we call it a flow), runs it on CNAPS Studio, and sends you the results. If the result isn't right, say what to change.

It works for fixing photos (upscaling, sharpening, removing backgrounds or objects), creating images and short videos, pulling text out of document photos, and running the same steps on a stack of files.

In this guide, “the assistant” means Claude or ChatGPT, whichever one you use.

Before you start

You need two accounts and about five minutes.

What
Notes
A Claude or ChatGPT account
Free plans work for both. On Claude Free you can add one custom connector.
A CNAPS Studio account
A free account works for single runs, but results are watermarked. Running many files at once (batch) needs a paid plan.

You don’t need any other AI service. The models run on CNAPS Studio, so no OpenAI or Google API key is required.

Connect CNAPS Studio to Claude or ChatGPT

You do this once per app. After that, CNAPS Studio is available in every chat. You can also find the server URL and these steps in CNAPS Studio: click MCP in the left sidebar.

In Claude

  1. Open Claude.ai and go to Customize → Connectors.
  2. Click + Add → Add custom connector.
  3. Adding CNAPS Studio as a custom connector in Claude
  4. Paste this address: https://mcp.cnaps.ai/mcp
  5. Sign in to CNAPS Studio when asked, then approve access (see below)

Once it’s added, it also works in the Claude desktop and mobile apps. In each chat, make sure CNAPS Studio is turned on: click + below the message box, then Connectors, and switch on CNAPS Studio.

In ChatGPT

This works on the Free plan too. Use ChatGPT in a web browser at chatgpt.com; the desktop app shows different menus.

  1. Open Settings and click Plugins under Integrations.
  2. Click Browse directory.
  3. Click Add → Add custom MCP server.
  4. Fill in the form:Leave the icon, description, and Advanced OAuth settings as they are.
    • Name: CNAPS Studio
    • Connection: keep Server URL selected and paste https://mcp.cnaps.ai/mcp
    • Authentication: OAuth
  5. Tick I understand and want to continue, then click Create as a plugin.
  6. In the Connect CNAPS Studio window, click Connect CNAPS Studio.
  7. Sign in to CNAPS Studio and approve access (see below).

When it's done, CNAPS Studio shows up in Settings → Plugins. On a Business or Enterprise workspace, your admin may need to allow custom MCP servers first.

Approving access

Claude and ChatGPT both open the same CNAPS approval screen. Before you click Authorize:

  • Check where it sends you back. The screen says where you'll go after you authorize. It should be claude.ai or chatgpt.com. If it's anything else, click Deny.
  • Expect an “Unverified application” warning. You’ll see it with both Claude and ChatGPT. It shows up because they connect on their own instead of from a pre-approved list. It doesn’t mean something is wrong. If the address is right, go ahead.

The screen also lists what the app will be able to do on your account, such as running flows and uploading files.

Check that it works

Start a new chat and ask "What can you do with CNAPS Studio?" You should get a list of image, video, and workflow tasks.

Asking the assistant what it can do with CNAPS Studio

Your first task: clean up product photos

Here’s how to turn small product photos into large cutouts on a white background. Four photos take about a minute. Several photos at once count as a batch, which needs a paid plan; on a free account, start with one photo.

  1. Describe what you want. Type something like:
  2. I have a few product photos. Can you upscale them 4x and remove the background? Put them on a clean white background.
  3. Upload your files. The assistant replies with an upload link. Open it, drag in your photos (up to 20 at once), and click Upload.
  4. image
  5. Go back to the chat. The assistant picks up your files on its own. If nothing happens after a minute, type “Uploaded”.
  6. Wait for the results. The assistant posts progress updates in the chat, so there’s nothing to refresh. In our test, four 640px photos came back at 2560px in about a minute.
  7. Download. The assistant posts a link for each result. Links expire after an hour or two, so save what you need. If one stops working, ask for a fresh link.
  8. Adjust if needed. Say what to change, for example “Can you give me transparent PNGs instead of white?” It re-runs only the step that changed. In our test that took about 20 seconds.

Check small details such as label text on your own products before you publish the results.

Things you can ask

Copy any of these and change the details.

Goal
Try asking
Make a photo bigger and sharper
“Upscale this photo 4x at the highest quality you can.”
Cut out a person or product
“Cut this person out with a clean transparent background.”
Same edit on many photos
“Upscale all five of these photos the same way.”
Read a document photo
“Pull the text from this contract photo and summarize the key clauses in 3 lines.”
Create a short video
“Make a 5-second video of a quiet city street at night in the rain. Show me the first frame before you make the video.”
Turn a still into video
“Looks good. Now animate it. Add rain sound too.”
Make a vertical version
“Can you make a vertical 9:16 version for Shorts?”

Tips for better results

  • Say what the result is for. “For a store page” or “for a banner” helps the assistant choose white vs. transparent, size, and quality.
  • Ask for a preview on big jobs. Video takes minutes. Asking for the first frame first lets you check the look before waiting.
  • Change one thing at a time. “Make it brighter” or “use transparent instead” re-runs only the part that changed.
  • Ask what it did. Try “What did you just do?” or “Which models did you use?”

Uploading files and getting results

Upload files through the link the assistant gives you, not by attaching them to the chat. The assistant can see an image you attach, but it can’t pass that file to CNAPS Studio.

  • From your computer: ask for an upload link, or just describe the task and the assistant will offer one. Each link takes up to 20 files, all at once or a few at a time, and works once. The assistant waits up to 15 minutes for your upload.
  • Already online: if the file has a public web address, paste the address into the chat instead.

How long it takes. Photo jobs usually finish in under a minute. Heavy jobs such as video generation or video upscaling can take 1 to 15 minutes. The assistant tells you when it’s done.

Where results go. The assistant posts a download link for each result in the chat. Every flow it builds is also saved in CNAPS Studio under My Work → My Flows.

Reuse your work

Once a flow works, you don’t have to build it again.

  • Run it again on new files. Say “Run the product photo flow from last time on these new photos.” You can also open the flow in CNAPS Studio and run it there.
  • Process many files at once. Upload several files and say “Do the same to all of these.” Batch runs need a paid plan.
  • Make a variation without losing the original. Ask for a change such as a vertical version. The assistant makes a copy of the flow, so your first version stays as it was.
  • Start from someone else’s flow. Ask “Find a popular community flow for background removal and use it on my photo.” The assistant copies it into your account and runs it.
  • Start from a ready-made template. Ask “What templates are available?” and pick one.
  • Share your flow. Ask the assistant to publish a flow to the CNAPS community so others can copy it.

Usage, safety, and disconnecting

What Claude and ChatGPT do through CNAPS Studio counts as you doing it. Every run uses your account’s capacity, and you are responsible for it under our Terms of Service (Section 6A). The flows and results are yours too.

Check your usage. Ask “How much of my CNAPS usage is left?” Usage is measured in GPU time over a rolling 5-hour window. You can also check it in CNAPS Studio under your avatar → Workspace Settings → Usage.

See and remove connected apps. In CNAPS Studio, click your avatar, then Account Settings → Security → Connected apps. Each row shows the app, the workspace it can reach, and when it was last used. Click Disconnect on anything you don’t recognize or no longer use.

Disconnecting cuts off access immediately. It does not undo anything the app already did, such as flows it created.

API keys are separate. If you use CNAPS with other tools, keys are managed under API Key in the CNAPS Studio sidebar. Claude and ChatGPT can’t create or delete them.

If something goes wrong

You can fix most problems by asking the assistant.

Problem
What to do
Claude or ChatGPT doesn’t seem to know about CNAPS Studio
Check that CNAPS Studio is turned on for this chat (see Connect above), then ask “What can you do with CNAPS Studio?
I attached a photo but Claude or ChatGPT asks for an upload link
That’s expected. Use the upload link; attached files can’t be passed to CNAPS Studio.
A job failed
Ask “Why did that fail, and can you fix it?” Very large files and busy GPUs are the usual causes. Failed runs don’t use your capacity.
It’s taking a long time
Video and large files can take up to 15 minutes. Ask “Where is my job now?” to check.
I want to stop a job
Say “Stop that job.” It stops after the current step.
The result isn’t what I wanted
Say what’s wrong in plain words, for example “the edges look rough” or “make it 2x, not 4x”.
I deleted a flow by mistake
Ask Claude or ChatGPT to restore it. Deleted flows go to trash first.
